Ann Gabrielle Henning, DMA
Voice Instructor
Dr. Anne Henning currently acts as Instructor of Voice at New Saint Andrews College. She previously served as Director of Music Research and Graduate Professor of Historical Vocal Pedagogy and Vocal Studies at the University of Mobile (Alabama), Assistant Professor of Voice and Director of Opera at Troy University (Alabama), and Instructor of Voice and Piano at the International School of Music (Washington, DC).
Dr. Henning completed her DMA and MM degrees in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from The University of Southern Mississippi (Hattiesburg, MS), and her double BA in Music and French from Millsaps College (Jackson, MS). Additionally, she holds a conducting certificate and a cognate master's in music history. A published scholar, Dr. Henning commands a rising presence in the Schopenhauer-Wagner discussion space. In 2021, she published “The Music Monograph,” which has become a recommended text for doctoral dissertation candidates in universities nationwide.
A lyric coloratura soprano, Dr. Henning has performed over 40 mainstage opera and musical theatre roles with regional, B, and A houses across the States, as well as sung in London, Vienna, Munich, and Szeged. She specializes in crossover disciplines and particularly enjoys jazz and extended vocal techniques. Her upcoming engagements include a concert series with Rota Classical Occasions in Cadiz, Spain, as well as a masterclass with Opera Seville's outreach program. She is excited about exploring vocal pedagogy as a uniquely holistic integration of God's creative expressions, and her methods have been praised for their quick but grounded results, approachable flexibility, and common-sense yet empowering framing.
She is a blessed homeschooling mom to three young children, a loving wife to a US Navy officer, an avid international cook and traveler, and a certified level 3 Natural Horsemanship clinician. She speaks six languages, including Hungarian, and co-founded US BattleSpeak, a survival language program approved by the Pentagon and DLI East and West, designed to support emergency Arabic, Dari, and Farsi readiness for troops deployed to the Middle East.
